Elections

Hello! This is a reminder that our next meeting, held on January 9, will be the annual election meeting. We will hold elections for the officers of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and possible Historian. If you have any interest in running, please consider it. As many of the "old-timers" will be heading off to college this fall, it will be good to have a new band of younger officers. Please attend this meeting if at all possible. Happy New Year!

What's Coming Up?

Hello Explorers. I must first apologize for some things. Primarily, I am sorry that I could not attend the July meetings. I was on vacation, and at Music Camp. I promise my attendance will be immaculate through January. Secondly, sorry for not using this blog in months! I'll just blame it on that sense of lethargy that seems to grip us over summer. I am very excited for Post as autumn approaches. We are involved in a variety of activities in the next few months. We have a speaker at the last meeting in September, and hope to hold a debate sometime in October or November on the right of the South to secede, involving distinguished historians from the community. In addition, the annual Historical Society event is swiftly approaching on September 23-24. The theme this year is 1861; Buchanan's return to Wheatland. We also have Remembrance Weekend to look forward to, as well as our Christmas Ball. Finally, we have been asked to attend some Post events as well as dance for the Civil War Roundtable this autumn (these will be covered at the upcoming meetings). I look forward to this autumnal chapter of the Post, and hope to see all of you at the events/meetings!

President

Hello. I will not be at the next two meetings, due to music camp and vacation. I apologize for my absence. I just thought I'd give a "head's up" to everyone.

Camping Trip

Hello all. On the weekend of June 23 we had our annual camping trip, this time to Bull Run, Virginia. Despite the abundance of rain, the trip was fun. At the battelfield of the First Bull Run, we saw where Thomas Jackson marched his men into a stolid formation "like a stone wall." We also saw the new building of the National Air and Space Museum, which was incredible! We got to see the Enola Gay, the Spaceship Enterprise, and also we went into an air traffic control tower (at which point many of us became uncontrollably giddy because of altitude). After returning to camp, the rain started, and swelled to a relentless downpour. Upon waking the next morning, the group decided the best option would be to head home, due to the rain. Overall, a fun trip with a fun group.

Memorial Day Parade

On Monday, May 29 we marched in the Marietta Memorial Day Parade. The attendence was low, but those there had a good time. Don't forget to bring your designated food for the June 13 meeting which is our annual picnic.

Thaddeus Stevens Event

Hello. On Sunday we attended the long awaited Thaddeus Stevens College event. The weather was excellent. The tableaux went extremely well, the only problem being lack of amplification. The dancing was also a success. It felt good to see our months of work put to use. Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Swonger, Mr. Pentz, and Lindsey for their help with this event, and to all those who attended.

Dance Class

Hello. On Saturday, we held yet another dance class. Due to the studio being unexpectedly booked, we held our class at the Silver Spring Park. It was a beautiful, temperate day, and the dancing was excellent. Thanks to the Swongers for their time. We focused mainly on the three dances we will be presenting at Thaddeus Stevens' College on May 21; the Soldier's Joy, the Virginia Reel, and the Spanish Dance (or Waltz). Please come to the meeting this Tuesday, and be prepared to run through our dances again. We will have another class on May 20 at 12:30 at the Silver Spring Dance Conservatory. Thanks.

Subs

On Tuesday we held a very brief business meeting and distributed our subs from the sub sale. Thanks to all those who sold, and thanks especially to Mr. and Mrs. Swonger for their coordination of the event. We raised well over $200. In addition, we held "official signups" for the following events:
1) Dance Class on May 6, 12:30-2:30
2) Pennypacker Mills Reenactment June 3-4
3) Thaddeus Stevens' College Tableaux/Dinner/Dance May 21
4) Memorial Day Parade in Marietta May 29
If you were not at the meeting, you absolutely must let me or Mr. Pentz know if you want to attend any of these ASAP.
Thanks.

Meeting This Tuesday!

Hello. Just a reminder that we have a meeting this Tuesday at the Historical Society. As well as running a regular business meeting, we will also hear from Mrs. Lingle. She will be telling us about parlor games, a popular form of entertainment. Bring a friend; I'm sure we will be invited to participate!

Our Dance Class

Our second dance was a great success. Led by the Swongers, we focused on The Soldier's Joy, the Waltz, the Spanish Dance, the Virginia Reel, and the Portland Fancy. If you wish to participate in our upcoming dance demonstrations this Spring, you must start attending the dance classes. If transportation is an issue, there are many people willing to give rides. Our next dance class will be held on Saturday, April 1 at the Silver Spring Dance Conservatory. Times to be set at our next meeting. Please mark down this date and strive to attend! Also, check our calendar for other upcoming dates or to add important ones (http://my.calendars.net/pianoplayer589/ ).
Thanks, Garth.

There is a dance class this Saturday (March 18) at the Silver Spring Dance Conservatory in Silver Spring, from 12:15-2:15 PM. It will be led by Mr. and Mrs. Swonger. Please attend this event if you are available. Our last class was an enormous success and everyone had a great time. Email or call me for directions.

Is there a possiblity of putting meeting minutes on here in the future? Thanks.
